TITLE: Bringing Families Home (BFH) Education Coordinator 

REPORTS TO: Education Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Full Time 

COMPENSATION: $30/Hr. Plus benefits including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid holidays, sick time, 401K plan

Amigos de Guadalupe fulfills its mission by focusing on four strategies: Expansive Outreach (alcance comunitario), Trusted Information & Referral ( amigos de confianza), Targeted Direct Services Program ( comunidad fortalecida) and Case management (compañerismo). The Case Manager will be mostly focused on comunidad fortalecida and compañerismo.

Founded on the principles of justice and advocacy, Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice and Empowerment partners with the Si Se Puede Collective and local agencies to make social services more accessible to the Mayfair Community; to strengthen individuals and the community through education; and to address social inequities by creating strong leaders through community organizing.

 

Job Summary: 

Reporting to the Education Manager, the Education Coordinator will work with families referred to the Bringing Families Home (BFH) program. The program's goal is to reduce the number of families in the child welfare system (CWS) experiencing or at risk of homelessness, to prevent foster care placement, and to increase family reunification by providing supportive services.  The Education Coordinator will be a liaison between client and education entities and resources by evaluating, interpreting, and determining the needs of clients utilizing Amigos de Guadalupe’s core values of Radical Hospitality and 2-Gen. Approach.  The Education Coordinator will perform a variety of clerical operational functions in support of the BFH program. This position requires commitment to daily timelines, accurate data entry and record keeping, attention to detail, and skill in responding effectively and tactfully to inquiries from clients. The Education Coordinator actively models and communicates the mission and vision of Amigos de Guadalupe and supports a culture of empowerment, team building, and open communication.

The Education Coordinator must understand issues of highly impacted communities of color, where access and resources are missing and the opportunity gap is highest. The Education Coordinator works collaboratively with the Education Manager and other assigned staff to establish and meet the goals of all Amigos education programs, including the After School, Summer School, and Scholarship programs. The Education Coordinator, in cooperation with the Education Manager and other assigned staff, plan, initiate, and implement all education programs to support student academic achievement/success.  All programs serve to help to address the Latino opportunity gaps and systemic racism in education.  The Education Coordinator is, or will become familiar with California Common Core State Standards for students, including those associated with social-emotional learning. 

Primary Duties:

  • The Education manager supports the Education Coordinator to implement all aspects of   BFH education program,after school, summer programs, field trips, enrichment activities, coordination with volunteers and mentors, sports programs and/or activities, and student nutrition programs
  • Supports the implementation of the Amigos Scholarship Program
  • Supports ensuring a safe learning environment for all students 
  • Maintains equipment and inventory related to educational programs
  • Supports the preparation and implementation of pre and post program assessments
  • Adheres to the 2-Gen approach to learning in support of students and families
  • Practices radical hospitality with all community members 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lesson planning 
  • Reliability in working assigned hours
  • Teach, direct, and supervise students
  • Maintain daily attendance reports and support data gathering for aggregate reports
  • Maintain data entry requirements
  • Maintain inventory of materials and equipment
  • Responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of students at all times
  • Act as an active participant and a positive role model to students, exhibiting professional behavior at all times with all constituents
  • Demonstrate awareness of systemic failures of current systems and support filling those gaps with knowledge of the community’s needs and equity gaps
  • Ensure that any academic and/or behavioral concerns are reported to the Education Manager immediately and remedied appropriately
  • Practice conflict resolution techniques and positive behavior intervention and support 
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development trainings
  • Support children and guide families through the school enrollment process
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The Education Coordinator will have the following competencies and knowledge base and/or possess the following skills:

  • Common Core Standards
  • Balanced literacy
  • Lesson planning and implementation
  • Classroom management, including Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS), Conflict Resolution techniques, and Social-Emotional learning strategies
  • Excellent classroom management within a child-centered program
  • College degree in education or related field, or degree in progress, valid teaching credential preferred, or equivalent experience in directing programs
  • Experience working with children in a variety of school settings. 
  • Successful experience in working within local educational, governmental, and/or nonprofit agencies
  • Must have knowledge of, and ability to work in, racially diverse communities, under-performing schools, and low high economic poverty areas
  • Must be fingerprinted and have a background check
  • CPR and/or First Aid training Certifications Preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) Preferred
  • Valid California Driver’s License
