Position Title: Rapid Response Network Community Navigator

Reports To: Rapid Response Network Manager, Policy and Organizing Director

Classification: Temporary, Full-Time Position, Non-Exempt

Compensation: $30/hour

Position Overview

The Community Navigator is a critical role within the Rapid Response Network (RRN) team, responsible for advancing RRN’s mission across Santa Clara County. This position focuses on educating residents about RRN resources and providing direct community engagement. The Navigator will lead outreach campaigns, organize events, coordinate press conferences, and create opportunities for education on immigration-related issues. Strong communication, organizational skills, and a deep understanding of community needs, especially regarding immigration, are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Promote RRN initiatives throughout Santa Clara County by increasing awareness of available services and resources.
  • Deliver “Know Your Rights” presentations in community settings, providing education on rights during ICE enforcement in both English and Spanish.

Organizing & Advocacy

  • Lead and facilitate Organizing Movement Building (OMB) meetings and campaigns focused on immigration justice and deportation defense.
  • Engage community members in advocacy efforts to strengthen immigrant protections and local response capacity.

Dispatch and Responder Coordination

  • Support the coordination and development of RRN responders (“legal observers”), including training, organizing, and mobilizing volunteers for rapid response efforts.
  • Assist in organizing community campaigns and events that enhance responder engagement and readiness.
 

Qualifications 

  1. AA or BA in Sociology or related fields recommended.
  2. Bilingual/biliterate English-Spanish.
  3. 1-2 years of experience working in community-based organizations in community organizing, community leadership development and/or peer-to-peer service delivery models (i.e. Promotora) in working poor, immigrant communities. 
  4. Demonstrated deep commitment to and belief in the Rapid Response Network mission. 
  5. Organized, dependable, and reliable. 
  6. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, teamwork orientation, and ability to motivate a wide range of people with a sensitivity to issues of cultural diversity. 
  7. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. 
  8. Class C Driver's License Required.
  9. Reliable transportation.
 

Other recommended qualifications

  • Relevant experience with the East San Jose community or similar communities or having a background and experiences that help you understand the perspectives and lived experiences of our community.

Working Conditions
